Endorsements; campus eyes election
Davidson College students are
getting involved in this fall’s town election, hosting candidate forums and following candidates through the student newspaper, The Davidsonian. Meanwhile, last minute endorsements are coming in for some of the candidates.
ENDORSEMENTS
Town Board candidate Lenny McAllister reports that he has gained the support of the Davidson Black Political Caucus, a new group he said is “establishing a relationship” with the Charlotte Black Political Caucus. The caucus held a meeting with the candidates Thursday night at Ada Jenkins Center on Davidson’s west side.
Mr. McAllister also says he’s picked up support from Charles Jeter, a town commissioner in Huntersville, and from Ahmad Daniels, a Charlotte-area civil rights activist.
William E. Jackson Jr. says his mayoral bid has won the endorsement of Mecklenburg County Commissioner Norman A. Mitchell Sr. Mr. Mitchell represents District 2, which covers the western side of the county. Davidson is in District 1.
Also, an advertisement in this week’s (Oct. 31) Lake Norman Times includes endorsements for Mr. Jackson from a list of citizens: Ted Arrington, Tobin & Sarah Henry, Gill Holland, Rusty Knox, Susan MacCormac, Alexander & Babs McKelway, Paul Miller, Ed Palmer, Ron Raeford, Bob & Ann Santoli, and Sam Spencer IV.
STUDENT INTEREST
On the Davidson campus, The Davidsonian student newspaper has been following the mayoral and Town Board races. Last Monday, mayoral candidates William E. Jackson Jr. and John Woods met in a debate sponsored by the Student Government Association and the newspaper.
