THIS WEEK: Town Board, N.C. 73 plan, presidential inauguration

The monthly Town Board work session is Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, with an agenda that includes discussions of affordable housing deed restrictions, animal control, the town’s aging task force and the proposed 7-story Meeting Place retail and office project off Exit 30. Also on the calendar this week are a public workshop on development in the Davidson-Concord Road/N.C. 73 and festivities at Davidson College surrounding Saturday’s inauguration of new president Tom Ross. For those and other events this week …

TOWN BOARD AGENDA

On Tuesday, the Town Board will hear a presentation from affordable housing coordinator Cindy Reid about potential adjustments to deed restrictions required on homes built under the town’s affordable housing rules. The town requires deed restrictions stipulate that homes sale prices and rents remain affordable for 99 years after construction or sooner if a future town board repeals the affordable housing ordinance.

Mark Balestra of Charlotte-Meckenburg Animal Control also will make a presentation to the board. The board is facing a variety of animal-control related issues. It recently heard a plea from Cornelius and Huntersville officials to join in a joint north Mecklenburg animal shelter, though Davidson has not made a decision on that. The town is currently without an animal control officer. Last month, the town fired officer Kenn Latzer after an incident the death of a dead cat.

Town planner Parviz Moosavi will present an update on the Meeting Place project, which was the subject of a public hearing at this month’s regular Town Board meeting Oct. 9.

At the Oct. 9 meeting, board members and some residents expressed concerns about the height. Architect/developer Rick Mack could build a 75-foot building on the site without seeking additional approvals from the town. Because he is seeking to build a taller structure, he must get town board approval for a conditional rezoning.

N.C. 73 PLANNING WORKSHOP

Thursday’s planning workshop on the Davidson-Concord Road/N.C. 73 area is part of a long-range planning process involving Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville. It will run 7-9 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church. Davidson is in the midst of a 1-year moratorium on new construction in the area, where landowners and developers are eager to move forward with a variety of projects. Davidson officials adopted the moratorium in July to give the town time to solicit residents’ ideas and concerns and undertake a comprehensive plan for the area. More info on the town website.
