Towns schedule cable vote June 11
Davidson and other Lake Norman area towns considering buying the local cable TV and internet system plan to vote June 11 on the deal.
Davidson, Mooresville and Troutman are considering joining hands to buy the system, which they plan to rename MI-Connection. Cornelius also has been studying the idea, though it appears more likely to transfer its customers to the system than to buy into it.
Davidson spokeswoman Sara-Lynne Levine said this morning the towns will hold a joint meeting — but vote separately - on June 11 at 6 p.m. in the Charles Mack Citizens Center, 215 N. Main St., Mooresville.
The towns are up against a June 14 deadline to decide whether to buy the network, a deadline triggered when a New York bankruptcy court judge set the price last month.
If the towns go ahead with the deal, they will have 120 days to complete the purchase. They would hire a cable TV operator, Bristol Virginia Utilities, or BVU, to operate the system, which would be overseen by a locally appointed commission or board.
The system is available because of the 2002 bankruptcy of former operator Adelphia Communications.
If the towns decide not to buy the system, it would become part of Time Warner Cable’s Charlotte operations. Time Warner has been operating the system temporarily while the towns decide what to do.
