Photo studio opens above Main St. books

Christopher RecordDavidson’s Main Street recently added another new business – Christopher Record Photography, which has opened at 126 Main St., above Main Street Books.

Mr. Record (pictured) is a longtime Charlotte Observer news photographer, who left the paper in January. After 20 years of shooting news, sports, and celebrities, he now offers commercial and studio photography, non-traditional portraits and, for selected clients, “documentary style” photographic coverage of weddings.

His unique approach to weddings sounds a lot like the way he handles big news assignments. “We capture the events of the wedding as they happen, as opposed to staged portraits. We capture the emotion and interaction,” Mr. Record explained recently as he was moving into the studio.

After leaving The Observer, Mr. Record and wife Betsy began searching for office and studio space, which he found in Davidson. “We were just drawn to the charm of the town,” he said. “We grew up in Pennsylvania and we like small towns. We like college towns. We feel that it’s a really good market.”

Mr. Record goes where the work is, but typically works in the Charlotte region and throughout the Carolinas in an area stretching from Asheville to Charleston. His commercial photography clients include the United States Golf Association and PGA, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Habitat for Humanity as well as area advertising agencies.

For more about Mr. Record, or to see his portfolio, go to www.christopherrecord.net. For a look at his wedding and portrait work, he has a second website at www.christopherrecord.com
He also has an online journal, or blog, with more about his work and samples and stories about recent assignments, at http://christopherrecord.blogspot.com/
