Dad’s blog shares news of son in Iraq

Back in January, we reportedEvan and Bethany on Davidson native Evan Maier’s decision to re-enlist in the U.S. Army. Evan is the son of Bob and Catheryn Maier of Walnut Street, who have been fielding a lot of inquiries about him since his deployment to Iraq. So Bob is using his blog to help folks keep up with Evan. “A lot of folks around town have been asking about Evan (#1 son who’ in Iraq). Interesting stories have been coming in, so I decided to make a blog and save my breath everytime I get stopped by a friend in the street,” Bob said in an email Saturday. (Bob is an occasional contributor to this website, writing commentaries about local issues.)

Evan grew up in Davidson, attended Davidson Elementary, Davidson IB Middle, and graduated from North Mecklenburg High School. He attended Davidson College for a year. He is known around town for his past work as a lifeguard at The Swimming Hole, a barista at Summit Coffee, and activities with DCPC’s youth groups.

One recent entry on Bob’s blog talks about how Summit Coffee has stepped up to help keep Evan supplied with coffee in Iraq.

Bob’s blog is at http://portablefilms.blogspot.com
