Walk to school workshop planned May 30

A daylong workshop including town and school officials, transportation experts and parents is planned next Wednesday, May 30, to look at how the town can make it safer for children to walk to school.

The town and state Department of Transportation are collaborating on the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) workshop, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Town Hall.

A limited number of seats in the workshop are still available for residents, in particular parents who live close enough to walk their children to Davidson Elementary School on South Street, said Sara-Lynne Levine, town communications director.

The workshop also will include members of Davidson Walks, a citizen committee that began meeting earlier this year to study how to make the town more pedestrian friendly.

Participants in next week’s event will help identify issues that affect whether children walk to school. At day’s end, those gathered will develop an action plan for critical issues.

Space is limited. If you’re interested in joining the free workshop, contact Sara-Lynne Levine 704-940-9602 or slevine@ci.davidson.nc.us.
