THIS WEEK: Board looks at cable purchase, school trailer alternatives

More mobile classrooms are being mobile classroomadded at Davidson Elementary School to handle another increase in enrollment next year. Davidson planning director Kris Krider wants the school district to consider an alternative to the unsightly mobile classrooms it usually installs.

At the town board work session Tuesday at 6 p.m., he’ll lead a presentation about an intriguing alternative, one he describes as “attractive and affordable.” (See photo) Joining Mr. Krider will be Tom Low of Duany Plater-Zyberk. Mr. Krider acknowledged last week that it’s probably too late to persuade the district to consider the alternative this time around. But he hopes as growth continues, the district might consider the more attractive units in the future.

Also at Tuesday’s session, officials will present their case for buying the local cable TV and internet system. Here’s the week’s calendar:

MAY 20-26

MONDAY, MAY 21, 7 p.m., and TUESDAY, MAY 22, 7 p.m. - Davidson Community Players auditions for “Beau Jest” by James Sherman, directed by Carey Kugler. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script; no monologues necessary. At Davidson College Presybterian Church, Room 216, Main Street and Concord Road. TUESDAY, MAY 22, 6 p.m., Town Hall – Town Board monthly work session, including a session on alternatives to mobile classrooms by Tom Low of Duany Plater-Zyberk and town planner Kris Krider. Also, presentations on the Davidson East expansion and the proposed purchase of the local cable TV and internet system (7 p.m.).

  1. Clarification: The Town Board Work Session begins at 6 PM on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The regular Town Board Meeting begins at 7 PM on the second Tuesday. Tomorrow’s presentation on the Learning Cottages will begin promptly at 6 PM. Thanks, Kris
