Ada Jenkins seeks new director
Davidson’s Ada Jenkins Center is in the midst of a search for a new director to replace Bill Johnson, who will retire June 30 at age 65.
Mr. Johnson announced his retirement a year ago. As director, he oversees more than 20 community service programs, helps raise money and manages a $700,000 annual budget.
Advertisements for the position brought in 120 applications, he said Monday, and the board’s search committee has narrowed the field to about 7 candidates, many of whom are from this region.
The board will conduct interviews in early May and expects to have a new director in place by mid-June, Mr. Johnson said.
Mr. Johnson has been Ada Jenkins’ director since the summer of 2001. Before moving to Davidson, he worked 30 years as a hospital executive and health care administrator, mostly in Florida.
He said his time at Ada Jenkins has been “a nice balance of learning and doing in a very unique environment, where you can assist families and individuals, when many don’t have any alternatives.”
“I marvel that over my six years, I’ve just seen that grow stronger and stronger,” Mr, Johnson said. “This area is privileged to have an organization that allows that to happen and it creates a healthy community.”
