Global Warming, a hot topic no matter how you look at it, will be the focus of the Davidson College Smith Lecture Friday night starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Family Performance Hall. Speaker Tim Flannery, the 2007 Australian of the Year, will argue that evidence for warming trends is compelling. Mr. Flannery is the author of “The Weather Makers: The History and Future Impact of Climate Change.” A book signing will follow his lecture, which is free and open to the public.

  • The Wildcats baseball team just had shortstop Matt Webb named the Southern Conference Player of the Week after the sophomore hit .367 in six games with four homers and nine RBIs. Three of those home runs, including a grand slam, came in the March 14 win over Yale, which makes Mr. Webb just the fifth Wildcat to ever hit that many homers in one game. The team (13-10 overall, 2-1 Southern) will host a series with UNC Greensboro this weekend that includes games at 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday.
