21 complete town’s first Civics 101

Davidson's 2007 Civics 101 graduates

Davidson's 2007 Civics 101 graduates

A group of 21 Davidson residents (above) “graduated” last week with degrees in a subject they’ve been studying all year – town government.

The town’s first Civics 101 class wound up with a ceremony at the Town Board meeting Tuesday, March 13, where the participants (listed below) got certificates and Town of Davidson T-shirts.

Dr. Christian Wolff, of Pine Road, learned that our town government gets a lot out of its relatively small staff. “For a small number of hard-working people to be able to manage the growth in town – that’s phenomenal,” Dr. Wolff said.

One of the things he likes most about Davidson, he said, is that “if you’re a citizen and you have a concern, you can be heard.”

Other participants said they were impressed at the creativity and depth of information they got during weekly sessions with each department of town government – from the recreation department to police and fire to the town board.

The first Civics 101 class was so successful, and the demand for the class so high, that the town is planning to offer it again, possibly in early 2008.

Graduates from the first Civics 101 were:
Benny Allen, Budd Berro, Beth Cashion, Paul Dienemann, Barbara Doster.
Also, Charlotte Epley, Dee Jetton, Mike Kessler, Mike Kota, Kenneth J Lesco.
Also, Charlotte Neal, Jay Neal, Kathie Paulsen, Ed Roberts, Cheri Sell, Christy Shi.
Also, Richard Topham, Laurie Venzon, Anne White, Christian Wolff, Raymond Zeman
