Plan board recommends hotel project
The Davidson Planning Board voted unanimously Monday to recommend town approval of the proposed Sheraton hotel and conference center off Griffith Street near I-77 Exit 30.
The plan now goes to the town board. The board will review it during its monthly non-voting work session tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 27) at 6 p.m. at Town Hall. The project then would likely come up for approval at the March town board meeting.
Also on the town board’s agenda tonight are discussions of revisions to the village infill planning area rules and the proposed purchase of the local cable TV system. (See the full agenda, CLICK HERE>)
6-STORY HOTEL
The Sheraton project calls for a six-story hotel building and 10,463 square feet of meeting space, as well as a ground-level restaurant.
The planning board approved the proposal as it currently stands, according to Davidson town planner Lauren Blackburn. She said planning board members exchanged views on the hotel’s plans for a drive-up covered entrance, or porte-cochere, and whether the sidewalks on the plan were adequate.
The planning staff is also asking the developer to consider reconfiguring a multi-story office building on the north side of the site into several smaller buildings to improve the aesthetics of the site.
